Just thought I'd say hello. Complete newbie to dslr photography and came accross this forum with all you knowlegeable people. I'm looking to buy a camera in the next couple of weeks but I'd like some advice from here so I dont make an expensive mistake.

Welcome to the group. People often ask what DSLR to buy.I did when I was new here. Different people have their favourites and, of course , you need to know how much you want to spend. You also need to go into a camera shop like Jessops or somehere like Currys and ask to hold some cameras and see what feels right in your hands. I have arthritis so needed a fairly lightweight camera.I settled for a Nikon D60 and have been very happy with it. I think they are about £350. There are several other cameras, all Ok, in this price range.

Thats an unusual user name you have chosen. Is that because you are studying psychology?

Not studying psychology but work in a university psychology department (dealing with IT). I tend to use it as a username because it is always available!
Spent yesterday lunchtime in Jessops as was attracted by the Sony A330 but didn't like the grip as it felt too small. The A500 was much more comfortable. Going to have a look at some nikons today but to be honest don't really know what I want. I'm interested in taking pictures of people and wildlife so probably need a twin lens kit.
