Hi, I'm Cocohoney from Somerset. I have just got my first DSLR, a Nikon D60, after years of enjoying compact digital cameras and wondering whether to splash out!

I'm very glad I did, and love my new camera, but I needs lots of advice and am hoping to find it on here!

I particularly enjoy taking candid pictures of people, and of my children. I wondered initially if anyone could direct me to a good book? I've read my manual and I need to know more!!

I am not terribly hot on technical stuff to be honest, and I would like to understand more. Once the children are all at school I want to take a course in the basics, until then a book will have to do :)

Hi and welcome.

You'll find many people on here will recommend Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.
I have the book and although I don't see it as the best technical guide it is inspirational.

Ok, I'll check that one out thanks.
I guess I'm after an all rounder, as I have only had point and shoot types before and I feel I am missing out on possibilities with the DSLR, but I don't know where to start. I think I mean that I understand what things do(a bit anyway:)), just not when to apply them
I would also like to read more about composition, especially with regard to candid photography. Would the book you recommend cover these?

Thanks again for your welcome. Should I be posting this in a different area? I am a dunce with regard to forums sadly.....

Hey and welcome to the forums! I would post in a different section of the forums with your questions, you will get a much larger selection of answers in the more specific parts of the forums :)
