Hi, My name's Rick/Rich/whatever,
I've been recommended these forums by one of your members (you know who you are:innocent: ), and I'm pleased to say that everyone seems friendly and helpful. Some of the "other" forums can be a bit intimidating to a relative newbie, but I'm sure I'll pick up some great tips here...hopefully without being made to look too daft:) .
I have a D70 and basic Sigma 70-300 zoom. Maybe one day I'll get that 120 - 300 f2.8 Sigma ! Mainly, I like motorsport and nature type shots, but am going to try some different things.
Thanks to Matty for setting up my gallery.

Rich

Hi Rick. :wave4: No-one will make you feel daft here, we all had to start somewhere, so if you have a question never be afraid to ask away, and rest assured this is going to be the best photography forum on the 'net.

Welcome! Glad you like it here, tell your friends!!!

Yay! Another Yorkshireman joins the fold. Welcome aboard :)

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Joe T,
yes the Sigma is the lens I'm interested in, but (if/when I buy) I'm also thinking about the Nikon 70-200VR - both about the same £££, but the Nikon has VR, the Sigma has the extra reach...its going to be a tough decision.

I had exactly the same dilema. I went for the Sigma for the longer reach. I rarely used the 70-300 much over 200mm due to the softness, and I remember how frustrating this was. Therefore I had to go for the 120-300 2.8. The 70-200 was very tempting, but wasnt going to be long enough. I plan on getting a 1.4x and maybe a 2x converter for the Sigma.

The zoom facility of the Sigma is incredibly useful for motorsport. A 300mm prime would have been far more limiting. The Sigma is a great lens!

Thanks everyone.

Joe T,
that sounds like good advice. Prob best to ask a shop like Jessops to get both in and have a go with both (they said they'd do that if I was interested). - Only problem is how bad I'd then feel if I went and bought from Hong Kong instead.
P.S nice pics in that thread you posted. Bet you can't wait to try it out in some better light in the spring.

wellcome another northener great:clap:

Welcome to the forums from another notherner. :)
Wrong side of the pennines :D But at least you're the right side of the Watford gap :D

There's no such thing as being 'too far south' - the only reason I used live where I did is the English Channel stopped me getting any further...

Welcome to the House of Fun mate.

:) Arkady.
Thanks everyone
