Hi all,

Complete novice when it comes to anything to do with photography and if i'm honest, the only camera I've ever had has been attached to a phone (shocking I know).

Anyway, after some (well, not much) convincing from a couple of friends who work in the photography industry, I decided to jump in head first and go for a DSLR. After plenty of shopping about and blowing my mind with all the different kits on the market, I chose the Cannon 1000d, as it seemed like a good entry level camera and within a budget I thought was sensible considering I am at the most novice level there is.

I've not managed to get out and about with it yet, but some of the images produced by you guys on here have given me some inspiration and I've been taking plenty of photos of the Christmas tree :)

I'm sure I will learn a hell of a lot on here once I start getting to know the camera and its functions and, in the meantime, if anyone has any hints or just general novice level things to try out to get to know the camera, I will welcome them with open arms.......:thumbs:

Welcome to TP, iam new here too and there is loads to learn and since being here i have found all the help needed to assist me with my photography :thumbs:

First thing to learn is not to give the Nokin yobs any entry - Cannon make gas fires, whereas Canon make excellent cameras and lenses that are superior to all others ;)

'South Manchester' is a pretty general area, do you want to be more specific?

Welcome to the TP forum, I live in the Manchester area too as do many others on here, we had a meet up recently at the Xmas markets & we are meeting up again in the new year, you are very welcome to join us.

I am very new to both photography & this forum also. Lots of information in the Talk Basics section for us newbies, I know the info on there has helped me so far.

Thanks for the welcome everyone, I live in Sale, about 5 mins from the airport (little more specific, sorry about that)

My friend is a massive fan of street photography and with living within 10 mins tram ride into Manchester Centre I am keen to go with her and see what it's all about, especially in the Northern Quarter where it is still quite industrial with the mills. My cousin also lives in a city centre apartment so I’m going to see if I can get some night shots across the city when it's lit up in all its glory!
