As a new member I thought I should say hello.

I am returning to serious photography after a long break, and am enjoying it.

My father was previously a professional commercial photographer (5x4 and 10x8 mostly) and when I was 11 bought me an all manual SLR to learn on, he wouldn't let me get anything with even so much as aperture priority as he said I should learn how to expose a shot myself!

Later I did some Saturday work and work experience with another commercial photographer in Leeds, which I really enjoyed.

I ended up buying a Nikon F60 (IIRC) which although I enjoyed I got disillusioned with not being able to experiment and see the results quickly.

Fast forward to now and I decided to buy a dSLR and got a great deal on an Eos 450D through a customer of mine. Since then I've bought a 55-250 IS and am currently contemplating the 100-400L.

In addition to photography my main interest is cars, I am the Sales Manager at Europe's leading independent Porsche specialist, I teach people to pass their IAM Advanced Driving Test and go to Le Mans for the 24 Hours every year (hence fancying the 100-400L). I am also a keen fencer.

I look forward to joining in on the forums, I hope I've not bored you all, have a good weekend.

Welcome.

I'm a relative newbie to both the forum and photography and am having a great time. I've found everyone very helpful and friendly. Look forward to seeing some Le Mans photos (was last there back in about 1981).

Be careful about the L lens...worse than crack cocaine that stuff, you only need to look through viewfinder once and you're hooked ;)

hi and welcome

good to hear you have had sound grounding in exposure relative settings

going to visit scarborough soon..

Welcome Mark, this forum is surprisingly large, quite a few people in our local area.

Welcome to the forum from a fellow IAM member & a frequent Scarborough/Whitby area visitor during the summer months.
