Hi, am new to this whole photography thing I have a compact Fujifilm thing (will update with model number when I can check it) and an old fully manual SLR but want to see if I enjoy this whole thing before spending any significant amounts of money.

I am based on the outskirts of Oxford city.

welcome Kevin- the camera you have is a bridge camera- the bridge between compact and a DSLR ( digital single lens reflex)

Take some shots with you fuji camera- see how you get on, plenty of help available within this forum, above all enjoy it- photography is FUN :D

Right so my cameras are a Fujifilm Finepix F72 EXR and a Praktica Super TL1000

For the Praktica I have a Pentacon 50mm 1.8, a Carl Zeiss 135mm 3.5 and a Carl Zeiss 35mm 2.4

I enjoy using the Praktica but I find that it's not really a practical camera and really hard to learn on as by the time I see the photos I've taken I can't remember what settings I used, also manual focusing and aperture control can be way too slow when something happens all of a sudden.
