:wave:Just to say hello and introduce myself.
My name is Philip Dunn and I've been a pro for over 40 years. I started for as an apprentice photographer - using glass plate cameras - for a local newspaper when I was 15. I worked for The Sunday Times for many years.
I now teach photography and I'm getting real pleasure from the enthusiasm that comes over from the photographers in this group. What a lively lot.

Welcome to the forums Philip

I for one am looking forward to your contributions. I might even be able to learn how to get a decent image :D

Welcome Philip,

At last a pro tog I know. (Not personally but I've read some of your tutorials and seen a video )

Allan,
Thanks for the welcome.
You'd be absolutely correct - Kirkcudbright it is.
Glad you found the dvd worthwhile. I have noticed that there are some posts about photographing people in natural light. Well, that's exactly what the next dvd will be about.
I am slowly finding my way around the forum and learning how to use it. I'm very impressed by the high standards.
Happy Christmas

What's all this TOG stuff?
I am a mere child and am determined to remain that way as long as my shutter finger remains free of the rheumatics.
Hope you enjoyed what you read.
Happy Christmas

What a lovely welcome. Thank you all.
I'm still trying to get to grips with the etiquette and system of the forum, so please bear with me. I have replied to a couple of responses individually, but I'm not sure that was the correct thing to do.
I will be happy to help anyone in any way I can, but I do not want to be seen as that old git who knows it all. I don't. Even after 40 odd years I am still learning... and that's one of the marvellous things about photography.
Thanks again
Philip

Welcome aboard Philip.

It's nice to see an old hand who retains the obvious enthusiasm you still do. The 'tog' bit is short for photographer. It's easy to drop into using it when you need to type the word repeatedly in a post. :D

You'll find lots of people will ask you questions via PM and there's nothing wrong with that at all. If it's an answer that's likely to be beneficial to a lot of people, I sometimes just ask that person to post the question on the board so that everyone benefits from the answer. You can guarantee that for every person who asks the question there are many more wondering about it, and reticent about asking.

Sorry Philip, did you think I meant Terry's old Geezer ?

Well your thread title is 'Hello from an OLD pro' :)

Welcome again to the best tog site on the net.

Well, there you go. I told you I was still learning. I've just learned that TOG stands for photographer not just one of Terry's Old Gits. Just shows what a SOG I am (Sad Old Git).
I will help anyone in any way I can, but as I have said, I need a little time to get my head around how the forum works and the etiquette involved.
It's coming.
