Ok...so you guys are either gonna love me - cos I know NOTHING about cameras & all the tecky lingo and im keen to learn, EVEYTHING ....
...or hate me - cos I have such a basic (beginners?) camera....but im guessing everyone mustve started off just like me at the start ?

Ive had this camera for a few years.i know it can do way more than just the point and click I use it for because it has loads of symbols and settings...I just dont know what any of them mean.

I've no problem uploading them to my laptop, and can do some basic editing, but I dont have, or have any experience of, photoshop....I guess I need photoshop...wheres the best place to get it?

I used to think that the bigger a memory card I could get, the more photos I could take, however having bought a memory card with big numbers to take photos at a friends wedding last year it stopped taking photo's after I'd taken about a dozen. ?.... so long story short, I discovered
1.one should always format a memory card before use ??
2. My camera didnt support such a large memory card ??

My most recent "disaster" was whilst having an informal family photo shoot. Kids home from uni. neice home from England with her newborn baby- a rare opportunity for us all (4 generations) to be together. Id borrowed a white background and fancy tripod from a friend and had planned to use my point and click camera, but at the last minute we borrowed a 'fancy' camera from a friend.

So the first 30+ snaps were great... the remaining 130+ SOMEHOW were saved as 'raw' images ....WTF !!!....ive been able to download something on my computer which allows me to see the photos, but I cant edit them (crop or change colour)...so I dont know what to do with them now....

Any(simple) advice re the RAW image thing would be much appreciated...but I'm keen to learn anything and everything.

Thanks for reading this far.

Hello and welcome to the forum Joy

Welcome from another newbie :D

Hi Joy and welcome to TP - None of us were born photographers, we all started from where you are now! Settle down and take a look around the forum, there's loads of information to get you going :D

Look forward to seeing you around

Hi Joy and welcome to TP. Don't be put off by all the technical jargon, you will pick it up very easy, just be patient. It is the same with image editing, you could try one of the freeware image editing programs HERE. I would recommend PAINT for a beginner. Then you could look to purchasing Photshop Elements at a lter date. Regarding the RAW imgaes, keep them as if you purchase Photoshop later it should open them depending upon the file format they are in. The may open in one of the freeware programs, but I wouldn't hold your breath.:)
