Hi all, just signed up today, I am in Milton Keynes. Most of the time I use a Canon wrist strap E2 on my 5D with a 16-35 L series lens to take pics as a property photographer. I have had this strap about 2-3 years and never given the quality of it a second thought but (as with all straps) check it regularly. So imagine my surprise when it broke at the point where the webbing goes through the plate on the bottom that attaches it via a tripod screw to the camera, causing me to drop the whole kit. The camera was cosmetically damaged but functioned OK but the lens made horrid noises and I thought I shouldn't use it. Another lens worked OK with the camera and I went on to do a a whole days work. This retaining part on the E2 is made of fairly hefty plastic but not reinforced at all with metal so I must say it surprised me as I would have thought as every other attaching part is metal this means it's the weakest part in the 'chain' so to speak even if it is solid. It broke in 3 pieces. Now my actual problem, I have been trying to get Canon to admit some sort of responsibility, they say there is nothing wrong with the manufacturing or design process, the repairs are £347 but pushing them they first reduced it to £300 and now I have raised a complaint they will go to £250 but still not acknowledge that plastic to hold a heavy piece of kit is not good enough. They have also now had it for 5 weeks and want me to sign a waiver before they start the repair!! Basically what I'm asking has anyone else had a similar problem or can offer thoughts. Internet searches had not thrown up much info at all. many thanks, sorry it's a bit long winded!

Staff Edit: as explained in subsequent posts, this question has now been asked in the appropriate forum ( https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/canon-wrist-strap-e2-opinions-please.629347/ ) : and I'd appreciate if you'd keep answers in that thread rather than in here.

Hi Chris and welcome. You may be better posting this question in the equipment section

Thanks vetonbike, I've never found forums very easy to use and understand!! Can I move it or best to just copy and paste into the new area? I'll try and see if it works like that.

you've sucessfully created a new thread in the correct bit of the forum Chris...

For future reference, members can't actually move threads, BUT if they hit the "report" link at the bottom of the first post in the thread, they will be able to request a passing staff member to move it for them...

As things are - there's no point moving this one now - and we've had messages saying you've duplicate posted - so I'm going to take the liberty of changing your first post's title to avoid confusion...

Welcome aboard Chris - look forward to seeing some of your work around the forum
