Hello!
My girlfriend and I purchased a Nikon D5300 last night after a few months of wanting a decent camera. We're going travelling for six months around Europe in March in a VW Campervan and we also regularly go on weekend trips and have frequently commented on a lack of camera when photo opportunities arise (iPhone notwithstanding).
Neither of us have ever owned a DSLR, in fact, I've never owned a point and shoot.
Anyway, the camera came with a Nikon 18-55mm VR lens, I couldn't get an answer on which 'starter' lens to go with, so went with what's in the box.
Main use of the camera will be on our travels so a bit of everything, landscapes, cities, us...

I've been messing around with the camera since last night while I get to grips with how it works, pictures are below (I do apologise that they won't be to the standard of others here). We've both joined our local camera club, we don't want to be experts but I like to understand the things I do.
Looking forward to chatting with you all and I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of questions.

Lots of people here to help you out. Good luck in the camera club, some I think can be a bit "are you local" if you know what I mean.
