Hello from Cambs advice on new gear

Hello to everyone. I am returning to photography after several years away from the hobby. I am currently looking for some new equipment, I have always had Nikon's in the past and want to continue with them. I would like to ask should I spend more of the budget on the body or lens? My choices are the new D300 with the 70-300VR or a D80 with the 80-400VR, not sure which way to go. I would like to get into photographing birds of prey in flight so any advise would be fantastic.

I know nothing about Nikon but the consensus of opinion on this forum has always been to spend the budget on glass so given the options you have given yourself that advice would be the D80 with the 80-400VR, IIRC the D80 being the cheaper body and the 80-400 being the dearer lens.
