Morning All, im new here, I would like to get into photography and have a Nikon D3400 camera and Nikon 18-55 and Sigma 8-16 lenses.

I'm hoping to be able to post some photos that I've taken, as I've spent a lot of money (to me) on camera and lenses and thought if would just be a question of setting it to auto and finding nice things to look at and point the camera press the button and take the photo but how wrong!!

The photos I've taken either don't look any good as a photo, or the ones that may have had potential appear blurred in places.....

Therefore I'm hoping I can post some of the photos I've taken for some friendly advice and tips

Hope to speak to you on the boards

Hi All, Merry Christmas!

As you are new to photography putting the camera on Auto is not a bad way to start. As you have said some of your photos, "... don't look good as photos,...." you have made a good step by being critical of what you take.

Do post some of your shots up here, with the EXIF data and someone will be able to help.

Have a look on line for Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO.

Knowing how these relate to each other and the effect changing them can have on the image you get is essential to getting the best out of your camera. There will be many times when Auto will do exactly what you want but when it doesn't, then a knowledge of these three factors is the way to go.

Just take lots of shots, oh and welcome to TP.

Dave

Along with learning about the exposure triangle i would personally spend some time sticking your camera in live view mode so you can look at the screen instead of the viewfinder then locate the controls for ISO, Shutter speed and aperture and stick it in manual or M and just play with those three settings. In live view you can see the effects the controls have in real time which for me really helped lock in what i was reading about the exposure triangle and you can do it from home or work on your lunch break just pointing at whatever is in front of you! welcome to the hobby and forum [emoji328]

Hi Tringa,

Thank you for your advice.

Can you please confirm the best way on doing the above? Do I upload the photo to Google Chrome for example and paste the link to it in this forum?

Also which part of the Forum is best to post the photos?

Many Thanks and Happy New Year to all!

There are a number of options. I use a free Flikr account to host the shots I want to post somewhere.

Post your shots in the most appropriate part of the 'Photo Genres - Sharing and Critique' section.
