Hello, Ive just joined up

I have got a Nikon D90 and am lookin got get more involved with photography (no specific field)

I'm looking at getting another lens and have been looking at the Nikon 70-300VR lens. I'm sure there ar much better lenses but this is at the top of my budget range at this point. Does anyone know if the Tamron or Sigma equivalent are any better and worth looking at?
