Hello Boys and Girls.
I registered a few day ago on finding the forum by accident
whilst researching new camerers.
For weeks I have been interested in the Panasonic TZ30. i see this as being a very capable bit of kit and a good lead-in to a real camera later if my new hobby
develops.
So yesterday having decided to afford it,I went to Currys and made the purchase. I put the camera on charge and proceded to install the disc on my laptop. This is where things turned bad.The disc would not load and caused awfull vibrations in the dvd player.Unfortunately no software or upgrades are available for public download without prior succesful instalation of the disc.
Currys call centre said phone PanasonicUK. The lady there said everything leaves the factory in working order and someone must have interfered with the disc and damaged it.So I have noe got the hump with Currys and Panasonic.
I took the whole lot back to the shop this morning and got a full refund.
So not a good start and don't know what to do now, other than to sulk for a few days.
Has anyone else had similar false starts with new kit?
Happy new year to all.

Bryan.

To be fair, the accompanying software with cameras are usually not a big deal.... they often have limited functionality and you're often better off using software on the computer like iPhoto (in the case of a mac). You don't need the software for getting images onto your computer - USB or card reader will do that fine :)

I had my canon since september and never had any software for it, in the last few weeks finally downloaded some after a few links were put up on here and also just took a 1 month free trial on adobe light room

so dont worry to much about software there is always other options (but saying that is i had bought new and some thing had not worked it would have gone back)

Hello Guys.
To reply to you're replies,I had the last camera they had so no replacement. To travel there a third time and wait several days was just not on. I had my laptop with me to install a disc had they chosen to magic one up.
One of the attractions of this model was GPS as I want to dip my toe with a view to buying a gps device in the future.Unfortunately the disc has to installed
initially to then download GPS features.
The attitude of the woman at PanasonicUK was less than pleasing and I think she could have simply taken my details and popped a disc in the post.
All things concidered I think a lot of people would have gone for the refund.

Bryan

Not a good reflection on Panasonic accusing you or Currys of damaging the disc - I assume the package was fully wrapped when you bought it? I'd expect sneering arrogance from Leica, but not Panasonic.

Fair comment mate, what's your plan now, different model or try and get the same ?

Hi.
I was definately the first person to open the box as when I gently peeled the sticky circular plastic closure off,it removed the black ink from the cardboard box.
The disc was textured around the rim and was touching something in the dvd drive. If you imagine the disc rolled over hot shingle bicycle wheel fashion leaving irregular dimples in the rim. These were detectable by fingertip and by eye when rotated and angled to catch the light.
I don't know what to do now.I wanted a small unit that would fit the pocket when walking the dog etc,as against a bulky serious jobby requiring a bag of accesories. I also liked the vast library of Youtube clips showing how to use it.
The cashback deal ends at end of december and who knows what the price will change to. Maybe the price will drop enough to equal or better the cashback, obviating the hassle involved with that.
I will keep an eye on the retail outlets and see what happens.

Bryan.
