Hello Everyone, Just thought I would say hello to everyone, I am 14 years old and have a Fujifilm Finepix S2950, I know I know its not amazing, but there Is a problem sometimes when I try Focus in Night time half pressing the shutter, there is a Red AF comes on the screen and it doesn't focus properly any ideas of what it is Many Thanks

Hi Daniel, welcome to TP.
The problem you have is that a camera needs a certain amount of light entering the lens to enable the auto-focus mechanism to do its job. In very dull conditions such as at night, there is simply not sufficient light for the camera to establish focus. The red light you see is the camera telling you that focus has not been achieved.

So, what to do? If your subject is near enough to the camera, using flash may work. I am not familiar with your camera so I have no idea if it has built-in flash. If it has, you may have to enable it in the menu system.

If you are taking a distant subject, you may be able to switch to manual focus. You will need to check the camera manual and you may well need to support the camera during the exposure on a wall, say or a tripod if you have one.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Ok thanks for the help, Yes my camera does have built in Flash, Also I went on Manual Mode, and then went on AF mode and there is, Centre, Multi, Area, Continuous, Tracking.

OK, but bear in mind that center, multi, area continuous and tracking are all focus modes, that is they each represent a different method by which your camera meters a scene. By manual focus, I mean a setting which disables auto focus and enables you to set focus using a focus ring on the lens, or buttons. Not all cameras can do this.

Hi Daniel, enjoy the learning curve, :welcome:

Hi Daniel a very warm welcome to you and what a super age to be. The limitations of the camera shouldn't hold you back, it is a very good model to start with. Look forward to seeing some images from you.

Hi Daniel, welcome to TP.
If there is not enough light for your camera to focus the red AF will show. Sometimes it is possible to shine a torch on the thing that you are focusing on to add a bit more light, if you then half press the shutter the camera may focus, you can then turn off the torch (or point it backwards) and then take the shot. Unfortunately if there is not enough light to focus there probably will not be enough light to get a decent image :(
Have a go and see what happens.
