HI there!,
Today is my first day posting but i have been following this forum for a while now!
My name is Alan, a 26 y/o from surrey working in central LDN as a designer.
My photography is more a passion but recently seems to have stepped up several gears and have invested alot of time and money in to this serious hobby and interest. Studying Traditional photography at college learning on a lovely Canon Ftb I learn't the ropes. After a few years i invested in a small digi cam and used it to document nights out and for Uni trips.
My Next step was a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm kit lens where i found my feet and quickly became hungry to improve and take better photos... Unfortunately i am one of these souls that for the best part blames not having the kit for the job to get it done..... So i bought a lovely 50mm 1.4 prime second hand for a couple of hundred quid... LOVELY STUFF!!! but it didn't AF on the D40 body.. so after struggling with that i then bought a cheap 55-200 4.5-5.6 Tele Zoom and had some fun with that. After a little while i heard about the 35mm 1.8G lens and snapped that right up!
I am now faced with shooting my first wedding for a friend this summer..Very nervous and went out and after much diliberation bout a D300s and an SB-900 unit with the thinking that if i am going to do it, i am going to do it properly!
Since, I have been on a flash photography course in Brighton's Garage studios where i learnt about off camera flash and have started to take what i learnt' and put it in practice with some umbrella added since... It seems to be slowly clicking in to place...Hopefully intime for the wedding otherwise i shall upset my friends who its for!
As a photographer... I tend to worry about the technical aspects of a shot as apposed to just getting out there and shooting how you feel! At gigs i get conscious of whats going on around me and sometimes this hinders me and might stop me from getting that shot!...other times its just becuase i am too drunk to remember how to use my camera!
New kit on the horizon... maybe before this wedding or after depending on budget and how i am getting on. but it would be nice to have a couple of different lenses in my arsenal one being a wide and one being a fast Telephoto perhaps the 70-200 2.8 for shooting my other passion which is gigs and portraits and models.
I hope to be of some help with any advice i can give and put samples up when i can.
Cheers and sorry for the long winded intro!
