Hello there, I'm Orrin from Blackpool. Got my 1st SLR about 3 weeks ago now, it's a Canon 400D and came with the standard 18-55 kit lens  It's doing well so far but I'm already looking into a 50mm to purchase and then I'm after a Canon 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, best get the hours in!

Loving everything I can do with it but of course still getting the hang of it :)

Great looking site, very informative and a pleasure to have joined.

see ya'll on the boards :)

I'll add me Fickr to this too, nothing special on there but I'm happy with some of the shots!

Hello :)

Keep reading the forums and you'll want to purchase a lot more!

Don't write off the kit lens it is perfect for getting you started and is a lot better than some people think. learn to use the camera with it. Once you have mastered controlling the camera yourself instead of auto you will really see what that kit lens can do..... then upgrade if you want to ;)

Thanks for the welcomes guys :)

Robert - thanks for that advice, I'm definitly making the most of (or what I believe to be) the kit lens, I have taken some great shots with it so far. I'll post some up shortly :)

thanks again :)

Hi and :welcome: to the forum

Hi Orrin, welcome to the forum. From the looks of your flickr page, you seem to be getting on great with the new camera! (Nice choice, by the way.):)

You're heading towards a similar set-up to me. I got the cheapo Tamron 70-300 first, then picked up a 50mm for £60. As Robert said, get ready to spend, spend, spend!

Thanks for all the welcomes guys :) I'm gonna set about using the forums more I promise :D It get's really addictive this photography lark!
