Hi All,

I will be getting the 100-300 f/4 sigma this week and have a question :D
Basically, I don't have any lenses of anything near this weight, the heaviest i have is the Tokina 12-24.
What are the guidelines when hanging this monstrosity off my 30d. Will it need to be supported at all times to prevent the camera from breaking? I assume it will or it wouldnt have a tripod mount.
Any further tips related to handling of the lens are very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Hold the lens, not camera when it is attached. Simple.

You dont need a monopod all the time but in some situations it can help.

I shoot handheld most of the time and come out with perfectly fine results.

Good buy!

King.

Keep your elbows tucked in tight to your body too as that'll help with the weight & follow Kings advice - heavy lenses are fine so long as you follow a few simple rules with using them. The bigger they are, the more damage when you drop them
Good buy, looking forward to seeing some results

You reach a point where you have a camera body attached to a lens not a lens fitted to the camera :)

Be sure to post some work with this baby soon!!

I will do my best ;)

Not posted anything for a while because I haven't had the chance to take any at all :(
Went to the lakes and it HAMMERED it down with rain so the camera didnt even leave the bag!
Will get this Lens to the Zoo or Monkey Forest sharpish ;)

Cheers for the advice.
