We are off on holiday and will be parking our car for 13 days. Just looking at various parking options one of them being Heathrow official parking out of curiosity I put in our dates (13th - 26th sept) The price came back at over £236 for the prebooked option. Thinking it would be way more expensive booking on the day. (same period of time) I tried for 02/08 Today and came in at over £50 cheaper. Is this the case that prebooking is more expensive than just turning up or paying the day before?

Not cheap but IMO it pays to guarantee a space.

Last September IIRC we paid £145 for 8 days.

Subject to checking the paperwork we are paying £195 for 11 days next year.

This is @ T 5 park & ride.

Ok, so the extra cost is to guarantee a parking spot? Im sure as its out of peak holiday season I should be ok leaving the booking a little longer. We are looking to park in t3 if we choose heathrow
IMO not so much 'guarantee' but I feared paying more the nearer the departure date

FWIW last year I booked it in April for September departure. So this next trip is nigh on a year in advance.
The figures above bearing in mind a longer period sort of track a simple multiplier based on number of days parking.

Having said that, I have no idea how often they might actually be fully booked......but in September I drove around a bit before I found one of the few(?) available spaces.

have you checked the "Taxi" costs

we are about £110 each way away by Taxi and we find it a lot easier

Yes thats exactly what we do and also your car will be safer at home too

Have you looked at booking a hotel room the night before you fly out, which is what I usually do, you can pay to leave the car at the hotel carpark while you're away, usually cheaper than paying the parking charges at the airport.

I have looked at that and found a few but seem to want an extortionate amount for the transfer to and from the airport. one wanted £38 each way for what seemed like a less than 10 minute trip.

dunno we just get the bus or the train nowadays for get aways , leeds to manch airport is £6 each for national express or leeds bradford its like about £10, all in, this whole parking your car thing for two weeks is just silly

Lucky we are 30 minutes away in the dedicated airport bus service, drop car at park and ride bus depot, get the bus to airport doors, bus every 20 minutes there and back. Free parking and bus pass means the bus is free too, pays the breakfast and a drink at the airport.

At Stansted its generally much cheaper for short stay to book as early as possible, the nearer the time the more expensive

...and having a car on the drive is good for security.

We've stopped driving up to Birmingham airport and now go by taxi. £110 each way. Sometimes we have to do a B&B in one of the airport hotels re early flights. ie.. 6/7 am. What's good in winter is that we don't have to get to the car park after arriving back here in the cold and often, rain, we don't have to drive in rain or the dark after a long day. Tenerife is a 4hr 15 minute flight but,of course, we have to be collected two hours before a flight from the hotel. Tenerife is the nearest warm/hot place in winter otherwise it's a 9 hour flight to the US/Caribbean.
