Ive seen somewhere recently where someone was worried about some of their photos being a bit strange, and the possible cause was that heat waves coming back up from the ground was causing a slight distortion and fuzziness. I cant recall exactly, but think that there were a few suggestion for how to overcome this like not shooting too close to the ground, or possibly increasing aperture I think I have experienced this over the weekend and just wondering if any of you have any advice on what best to do on hot days in the future?

You can't avoid heat haze.

Use a wide angle lens. The longer the lens the more pronounced the heat haze will be.

I cant say I've found a way to fix it. Maybe AI can? But I'm not convinced from my limited experience of it.

Lightroom dehaze might help a bit, if you have LR of course :)

This page provides a good introduction into the causes and effects...

When using long focus lenses, differential heating of the ground between you and the subject will distort the image that you are recording. It can't be "fixed" because it isn't broken. ;) This was recorded on a hot day across a field from something like half a mile...

Just a bit I remember from a YouTube video was to reduce the physical distance between yourself and subject. Shoot plenty of shots, refocus and again take more shots.

Put the camera away and go lay on the beach until it gets a bit cooler.

Don't 'fix' it, make it a feature of the pictures.
Either of these.

But in 10 yrs time you don’t want to be showing people pictures and explaining how hot it was cos it’s no longer obvious from the images.

I recently spent 5 minutes trying to get the right image of a mirage. And I wish I’d taken longer

Thanks folks, at least I know now that it's just something that can't be helped, cheers
