Hi

Im relatively new to the site and this is my 1st post even though iv been lurking in the background for some time.

I saw a thread recently about bringing dark photos back to life by doing something in photoshop but i can no longer find it (tried search aswell).

I have a few images that i would like to try tyhis on but cant remember how its done.

Hope somebody can help and hope iv put this thread in the right place.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,
Are they Raw files you're talking about? If so, you can process them in Camera Raw multiple times and then use HDR software to increase the dynamic range. Each time you process the file you should do one exposed for the highlights, one for the midtones and finally one for the shadows. As far as success goes, it really depends on how under exposed the original file is. If its very dark, then it is unlikely that you will get a very good result as there will be a lot of noise. You can try running it through something like Noise Ninja or similar which may help.
If they are Jpgs and very dark, there's probably not a lot you can do, although you could try shadow/highlight adjustments.

yes they are raw, the reason i remember it so well is there was one image that was really dark inside a church/cathedral and after it had been altered you could see all the detail asif the room had been lit up.

Thanks though il give that a whirl when i get home :D
