i still havent been able to combine my 3 shots to help me do some HDR processing
until now i have been using one shot...correctly exposed and employing oloneo software
can anyone suggest a free download so i can assess whether it is worth the 3 shot method...which i find awkward not having a tripod with me all the time...heck i dont carry one at all now
i did download photonaut but it wouldnt run on my laptop...some file missing it said
cheers

To get the best out of Oleneo or Photomatix, I find 3 shots work best.
Three handheld shots are possible, if you are using a wide angle (unless you have a very steady hand). The other important factor when taking 3 shots, is that you must be in aperture priority mode. If you were to take 3 shots with different f numbers, then you will get strange results.
When setting for the first bracket shot, ensure you have at least 1/90, as one of your other shots is going to be slower, likely 1/60.
Obviously if you use a tripod the speed does not matter. However you should always be set in aperture priority.

that is brilliant news...

does oloneo do the merging...i use this one a lot with single shots
also i didnt really know about the f no being the same...thanks!!!
i note for photomatix that you have to clone off the watermarks..not hard but tiresome...unless you buy it

hugin from here is both free and excellent!

thanks Cuchulainn
i will download that and give it a try...i do pano's sometimes and see this one is brilliant for that
will try one today
cheers

Yes, Oleneo will merge three or more images for you and at the moment it is still free. Be sure to tick the align image box when you transer your image to the merge side. Once merged, if you use the TM strength slider only, it will merge the exposures without a heavy hdr look, and if you want the hdr look, use the slider below 'Detail Strenght ' . I find it is then best to save the image as a TIFF, and then use my own software to adjust contrast/saturation/sharpness etc.

I use both PhotoMatix and the New HDR Efex Pro. At the moment, I use Photomatix more. Personally I like to use HDR to capture more of dynamic range as apose to making that sureal image (each one to their own taste)

This is a quick one I took yesterday inside a church, it is a little on the sureal side but there is something thing about it that I do like.

Hi Geoffrey
If you look at my blog post, i have included the settings I used in photomatix
I always capture 5 exposures from the camera with 1 stop between them

now that is tripod work indeed....my camera does and automatic 3 stop shot auto shutter reset..+/- 1 stop
following some instructions here on this thread i managed to use some 3 shot takes and produced this

but now i think i will experiment with the 5 shot way...if i can
photomatix does leave a watermark though..or is it only for un meenies:geek:

Hugin does a gentler version of HDR called exposure fusion. Here's a 3 shot example:

You said you couldn't open the programme? I'm guessing you're on windows? If so, there's the full installer here!

Hope this helps. BTW, don't be put off by the fact that's it's free - there's some excellent free software out there!
