Yes I have two, no I don't have pocket wizards, no I haven't fried one despite using the in all weathers/temps etc. I use mine with RF602's and a canon ST-e2, along with a 430 and a 420.

I have however broken one twice by dropping it from a lighting stand, or having the stand blow over. Both times the diffuser part broke/popped out broken. Both times was around £90 to repair, so I now have a cheap pair of yungYuo 460's as well.

I like them.

I have recently bought the Pocket wizards Flex t5 and mini t1 to use with my 2 x 580ex11 and 1 x 430ex11 and so far they have performed great with no problems as yet ;) I have read and heard so many stories about problems with the 580ex11 that it has fried my brain not the flash:cool:
Fingers crossed eh!!

I've been in contact with PW about this, and they are not aware of any Canon mods to latest guns. Canon does make changes under the bonnet without telling anyone, and they would surely want to address this issue for which, rightly or wrongly, they seem to be getting at least partial blame. But at the same time, I would have thought PW would pick that up fairly promptly and make it public.

Are you planning to get a 580EX2 and cane it in HSS mode? In which case, it seems there is at least some risk. HSS drives the flash very hard, and the PW system, brilliant though it is in many ways, drives it even harder and encourages you to do so! Nikons don't suffer in the same way for a couple of reasons, but not least because their HSS/FP sync output is deliberately detuned compared to Canon.

I have four 580EX guns and though I can't say I've ever thrashed them in HSS mode, I do use it quite a lot and never had an problem.

I'm not planning on caning it I just want it to last for many years, to be honest after reading the PDF and other sources I have been put off buying one.

How many shots have you had on your flashes guys?

Cheers

Sold mine now, but never a problem.

If you worry about things going wrong then you'll never end up with camera gear. I've heard of camera shutter breaking after a few hundred actuations, and then there's sharpness issues on lenses etc etc.

I have two - had them for nearly two years - both used fairly frequently - no problems whatsoever...
