Yes
Was driving down the M5 south in Somerset today as always passing kestrel after kestrel and buzzard after buzzard and heron after heron when I spotted a bird of prey which looked like a buzzard sat on a fence post over looking a stream with his wings stretched right out basking in the sun!!
That would of made a cracking shot and maybe worth the risk of stopping!!
Anyone else had missed opportunities??
I wasn't driving I'd like to add!!

I don't believe you ;)

.....but yes - almost every day I see something that makes me think :bonk: I wish I had the camera or even if I have the camera I spot things when I'm unable to stop the car.

About 20 minutes ago. After a disappointing day chasing Red Kites I was sitting in my local's garden in the sunshine with a pint when our resident Kite spent 10 minutes circling said garden at rooftop height. I could have got a whole CF card of keepers... if I hadn't dumped the 7D in the house before going for a drink :(

M5 you say- They were all heading over to my house so I could get the shots you didnt :lol:

Les :D

I was on my way to an RSPB site a few years ago and sat on top of a large sign was a Sparrowhawk eating something quite large like a pigeon--nothing strange there but the sign was for the local Crematorium and all i could think of was that the Sparrowhawk could have had a cooked breakfast..:lol::lol:

Needless to say there was cars right behind me and i was going quite fast and couldnt stop in time...:bonk:

Just 5 minutes ago we had a Roe Deer looking through the garden fence, a real one-off. And my camera was next door, with no way for me to get at it without disturbing the deer.

I do have my camera with me 99% of the time.

I have seen BOP's by the roaside too, & I've stopped, but not once have I got within shooting range before they fly off. They usually leave when the vehicle stops!

So, don't be too hard on yourself

Worst one was on a trip birding to Scotland, Myself an a friend hiked up cairngorm and while I knew you could get good views of Ptarmigan up there I decided not to take the camera due to the added weight.....that and I only had a 300mm on full frame so even if I had a good sighting it wouldn't be that close would it? Bout half way up we came across a beautiful male mooching around about 7 - 8 ft from the path oblivious to us.
We stayed watching for 5 minutes and not once did the bird seem phased by our proximity.

I was at my parents house a couple of weeks ago when some kind of bird of prey was flying about. It then dove down on a pigeon in flight and took it clean out of the air down into the field behind their house in an explosion of feathers. It only stayed on the ground with it for less than a minute then took off without it. I don't know if they return to the kill later to take it apart or something spooked it.
