Have you ever had your lenses calibrated?

I've recently purchased a Nikon 12-24, 24-70, and 70-300. Two were new and one was second-hand.

The first 24-70 was forward focussing terribly so I took it back and swapped it, the second is much much better.

Perhaps because of that I'm tempted to have them all properly calibrated to make sure they're spot on. Plus they're expensive lenses, no point paying that much unless they are actually as good as they can be.

I'm going to London in a few weeks and I've spoken to Fixation about this, and they're happy to do them. They'll probably have to post them back to me though.

Just wondered whether I'm being overly cautious or whether it is a good idea?

Would appreciate people's opinions.

why not just try this thread and try micro adjusting them first with your camera that way it will save you money and not have to have things posted to you.

If the lenses are spot on as per the manufacturers specs they may not be spot on for your camera. For the best results on your camera surely the best solution would be to get the lenses and camera checked together?

Interesting you say that. I mentioned that and was told that they calibrated the lenses off the camera so they wouldn't need it.

How very odd...

If the lens is calibraited in isolation it may well be within manufacturers limits but what about your camera body?

I don't know if your camera has MA or what the limits of it are but surely it makes sense to calibrate any system as a whole?
