I was wondering if people have found this new photographic competition website http://inspi.re/ I have been on there since it started in December and it has dramatically increased my quality of photography and passion for art. It’s free to join and compete in many different categories as a normal member…

Has anybody else discovered it?

I am quite active on the site (I run several communities) and if the personal reference is included the operator of the site simply knows where anybody who clicks on the link comes from. Nothing mysterious... I am genuinely asking people if they have checked it out in the the same way that there are several threads about Flickr etc... and if you have; what do you think? If there are other places I should be looking to compete I would be happy to look there too!

Joining the forum and using your first post to advertise another website is one way to get you noticed .... But not always in the best way.

Maybe not... but hey I'm only human... you live and learn...

Website looks a mess in IE6. Many internet users still use Win XP and have not upgraded to IE7/8 and do not use the other browsers mentioned. Making demands to change browsers wont win the site any friends.

I'm not overly surprised it does not support IE6, which is really out of date now and the site is newly written so would have been designed for IE7 and Firefox etc that most people use. Sorry if you are not using them as it is a good competition website.

I cannot disagree that IE6 is out of date, however the website mentions supported browsers.. Chrome, Opera, IE8, Safari. Opera and Chrome are used by only around 3% of internet users, Safari by around 4.5% and IE8 still only has around 1.5% take up. Firefox is by far the most popular at 45%, however it is only in the last 9 months that IE7 has become more popular than IE6, and currently stands at around 25% and 18% respectively.

So the outdated, unpopular IE6 still has more users than IE8, Safari, Chrome and Opera put together. The rejection of IE6 serves only to alienate those users, when there is no need, the design recognises browsers so a little shove to an IE6 friendly (alternative) page should not be too difficult.

As an aside, I couldnt find a business name or any proper contact details on the site. Email contact only is not sufficient for a lot of internet folk when it comes to parting with their "hard earned" - it is something that should be provided to afford disgruntled members the right to legal recourse as and when it is required.

Maybe I am too picky.. but I dont think it is a site for me.

I'll give Gilles the creator of the site your feedback, his address is at the end of the Terms found at the bottom of every page. You do not have to part with any cash until you have entered 70 competitions and even then all you need to do is delete old entries to prevent the need to part with any cash.

We appear to live around the corner from each other!
