Have just installed Lightroom v4 and.........

.........it only recognises my v3.6 catalogue up until May 5th!

I can still open the curent catalogue in v3 so what do I do next?

Just import the most recent v3 back-up catalogue into v4?

I don't have V4 but if it only recognises up to 5th May I wondered if you had not done a more recent back up

Very good point.....I assumed it backed up automatically every time I closed down.

The catalog structure of Lightroom 4 and Lightroom 3 are different. Did LR4 not ask you to run the conversion program to convert your V3 catalog to a V4 at initial start up. This may be the problem.

As far as backing up is concerned you need to specify this within the catalogs prefs. Either every time it closes, once a week or never. Not sure what the default is , but I suspect it's never

I had to search around for the option to convert the catalogue but I did find it. As far as backups were concerned, I searched for .lrcat files and there was a big gap between May and July, which could have explained the problem. However when I looked in the back-ups folder they were all there as expected.

Bit of a puzzle really.......
