Have I been ripped off? (ebay)

They're not Canon but are Canon fitment and come with a canon lens cap. £ 4 for extension tubes - no you've not been ripped off. However, these don't seem to have the pins that allow the lens to communicate with the camera to stop down the aperture.

Given that the Canon branded ones are £60+ each (not a set) then it was unlikely to have been pucka ones. This set consists of a series of threaded tubes with an EOS mount to attach to each end.
I'd advise caution when using them. They are aluminium and small amounts of dust can be released from the threads when you assemble and spearate them....a small smidgin' of vaseline wouldn't go amiss.

In the advert it does actually say that it is 'for canon' rather than being manufactured by canon. Seems like OK deal to me.

I think the advert is misleading

in the advert it says compatible with, and "Macro Extension Tube Set for Canon EOS DSLR & SLR"...not geniune kit

However, the title does say "CANON Macro Extension Tubes with Cover 4 EOS DSLR & SLR"

not a rip off though

Well, assuming that they work - and there's no reason to think that they won't - you've paid £4, got a set of extension tubes and possibly learned to check and double check EBay listings before submitting your bid. (What did you think you'd get for under a fiver by the way?)

Now, I've got some of these, I've also got some kenko tubes. Once you accept that you will almost certainly abandon AF for macro in favour of MF, and that with static objects you have plenty of time to check your metering/settings. So, what price the pins to enable the lens to talk with the body?

Go on... enjoy them, learn with them. You might even put your macro lens (now that's where you don't skimp on price and quality) on them.

Sorry, I realise "ripped off" was the wrong choice of words.

Tried them out for the first time today, I'm more than impressed, pleasantly suprised with the image quality as well.

Took a quick snap-shot (didn't bother with the flash gun or tripod) of a cake, and here's the result:

can only imagine how much better it will be with a tripod.

Thanks for the input :)
