Have a Wonderful Christmas

I made a spoof Christmas song and video using dodgy AI. Christmas song? AI? That's two strikes, surely! How many more to lose all my followers?!

It features distorted facial features, slidy feet (humans and horses), people walking like Michael Jackson, people morphing into each other, and faces melting away - possibly because of the screechy melisma of the singer.

Now for the blame list. I used the Noisee Project for the video clips, Suno for the song generation (with no other post-production), and ChatGPT (honestly) for the extra-dodgy intro graphic. The intro background picture is by Jan Brzezinski on Pixabay.

Underneath all the dodgy stuff, it occurs to me that the song itself, with a lot of tidying up and much better vocals, probably isn't worse than some other Christmas songs (sorry, Cliff). If I have time, I might see if I can create a 'proper' version before Christmas. No promises, though…

If you're going to do it, do it right.

Suggested terms: "Talk Photography", "Jaffa Cakes", "Is Canon better than Nikon", "What camera should I get from Santa?", etc...

On a more serious note, this is quite scary and as Tim says - it's going to get better and better.

AI imaging is already far better than what you've seen here. I deliberately chose to use a video generation site that creates images and sequences that are laughable compared to the best. Faces melt, reindeer slide along the snow, people moonwalk backwards down a street, etc.

If you're interested, check out work created on the Runway and Sora platforms.

I was photographing for a film industry meeting recently, and there was a lot of discussion about how to enforce copyright for the content used to train the models. People are lawyering up. I'd expect some gigantic class actions in the coming years. In the meantime, it's the Wild West.

Are the lyrics and complete song AI?

No. I wrote the lyrics with a little help from ChatGPT just to get lists of rhyming words. But the music and singer are AI-generated. There are other sites with much better voice generation, but Suno is easy to use and quite passable. Late last night I did a remix with a second voice from another site (Audimee) and layered the vocals, then remixed and mastered it in Logic Pro. One snowy background image with some falling snow, all put together in Lumafusion and I now have a non-spoof version, which I like much better. The one at the top of this thread was proof of concept.

The proper version is here, if anyone is interested:

I saw the second version on youtube, much prefer the audio, but prefer the video from the first.

Very well done :)

Very much what I was going to say, the spoof version's graphics are fun because they're faulty, but there's no need to inflict that audio on us to enjoy the AI faults :)

I'm sure both are well outside my skill set.

I realise that Christmas songs are not everyone's cup of mulled wine... :)

Very true, but it was the AI rendering that made it painful compared to the proper version!
I can cope with most Christmas songs at this time of year, a least until I've heard a particular song ten+ times.
