Think i might be bidding on one of these from ebay quite soon and was just wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost to sort any common problems they might have e.g a wonky viewfinder or shutter problem. trying to work out whther to try and get one cheap from ebay or spent more and get one from a shop with some sort of guarantee.

Thanks

Alan

Ive got my eye on a few just now, one auction is ending very shortly just not sure whether to risk going with a cheaper one with a few marks or spend more. If its going to cost me hundreds of pounds to fix something then i would just spend a bit more in the first place. Everyone says the paint was rubbish on them so im tempted just to go for a cheaper one, i dont mind how it looks aslong as it all works.

Well, its an expensive bit of kit and so is the glass, any guarantee will be well worth the extra I would think, depends how much extra we're talking about.

In my opinion if you want a film rangefinder which is well built and handles well go for a Bronica 645RF system. The results are far superior to 35mm and the camera is a dream to use.

I love mine and as they are becoming difficult to find and very desirable they are a good investment.

Well a kit just went for £720 on eBay, ffordes have got two just now, one with the 45mm for £999 and body only for £650, both of these come with a 6 month guarantee but it says the pictures may not be of actual item, which seems a bit silly as i dont think anyone would shell out 650-1000 pounds on something they havent even seen a picture of. Good ones seem to go for over £1000 on ebay.

Its the panoramic format thats attracted me to the xpan and it seems to be the only camera of that size and usability around. Have been wanting one for a while and decided to sell my bronica gear and one of my L lenses to help pay for one.

well, the dimensions of the xpan are 24x65 I think, I know its almost double an ordinary 35 frame in width.
There are other ways to do this cheaper, my own 6x6 Mamiya is obviously 56mm wide, only 10 short of the xpan, if you bought a 6x7 or a 6x9 fuji rangefinder, they would give widths of 70mm and 90mm respectively.
We won't mention the fuji 617, cos that's just a monster, but you can get some really wide pano's if you're prepared to crop from 60 to 24.

personally, I want an Xpan.....cos I just DO...OK

I have an orginal X-Pan and they are simple fantastic. The lens are slow, f4 max, and they only made 3, 45mm std, 90mm and the rare and very very expensive 30mm.

I have the 45 and 90mm lens and they are very sharp espically when using slow film. And now I have written this I am going to get some batteries and stick a film in it.

I'm prepared to sell my xpan, complete with 45mm lens.

Like Lensflare's some of the paint has come off, mainly on the base plate and the "grip".

There's also a black mark in the LCD on the back, but the display is fine otherwise.

I haven't used it for a while but as far as I know works fine.

XPan's can also shoot just normally 35mm size.........can't they??

On the back of the Xpan is a kind of switch, flick it one way and you have a 24x36mm film slot, flick it the other way and you have a 24x65mm slot.

I'm having second thoughts now, I've started to think of all the other things i could buy with the money so think i might wait until after christmas to decide, I want one but it is alot of money. will keep you in mind though if i make a decision.

OK; but advertising it is on my to-do list! I will get round to it eventually!

Mine is still for sale, and it has no marks on the LCD and is perfect - both 45mm and 90mm lenses plus heliopan warm up filters always had filters on so glass is totally flawless.

I love it, and the panoramics it produces with velvia are simply stunning - because they are, in effect, a slice of a 6x7 taken on 35mm film (Mamiya actually made a 35mm film carrier for use in the RZ. They also did one for the rangefinders too, again using 35mm film in the medium format camera....I wonder where Hasselblad got the idea from?!)
