Yes
I bought some batteries from an ebay seller with ebay shop.
Since making the purchase I have been inundated with emails from his shop with all the latest offers on their products. What is more worrying is that, "by coincidence" I am now bombed out with junk emails from other photographic firms and even more worrying from all the companies selling meds. including all the Viagra ones and worse.
Is there anything I can do about this. I cant prove they have sold on my details but it seems too much of a coincidence.

Just lay low, delete the mails as they arrive and it will die down. Don't use that seller again unless his prices are great and set up an online webmail address for yourself as a spam trap just for purchases, or for when you have to hand over your email address to anyone even slightly dodgy.

I actually have 3 webmail addresses, one for shopping, one for forums/games and one for anything else that I consider dodgy. Only family and friends and serious stuff get my pop email address.

I would of thought it more likely to be the seller from your batteries- they will of had to of had your details to complete the sale and they may well of sold them on - or be passing them round companies they have a conection with

There is an option somewhere to receive mail shots from a supplier that
you buy from. (Somewhere in your account settings) that's not ( wasn't) ticked by any chance was it?

No, I always make sure to untick the box re passing on information and requesting no information emailing to me

By law, he has to include an unsubscribe option on his emails.

If not, an email reminding him of this, and requesting him to remove you from his list should do it.

But, if he has passed on your details he may not be the most reputable of dealers. So might just ignore you. If so report it as spam.

computer - ILLiterate..

pls explain how to setup a ""online webmail address for yourself""

thanks

Simply open a hotmail, or Googlemail account and use it for any online stuff. I use a hotmail one myself, and it gets spammed a fair bit, but
it doesn't really bother me, as its sat on a Microsoft server and not my home pc!

What he said ^ except I use operamail http://www.operamail.com/ operamail, googlemail and hotmail are all free. Just sign up and use your new email address in future. Doesn't stop spam but it does help to keep it penned up and off your pc.
