Has anyone got/used one of these ???

IMO the grid looks too 'open' to be of real use, which is presumably why they also do this non-easy open one & actually specify the size of the grid pockets (4cm). Grids are quite pricey so presumably the more open grid on the easy open and the better grid on the non-easy is to keep the costs comparable. I also prefer a mottled/textured internal surface, especially if being used very close to the subject as I think it gives a marginally better quality of light - but I've never used one of these particular ones or dealt with the company.

Hello Paul,

Thanks for that, to be honest the thing that attracted me to those particular boxes was the quick and convenient setup/fold down design (don't have a vast amount of storage and its getting less and less) but if the quality of light effectiveness of the grid isn't up to much then maybe I'll probably pass.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

John.

They look extremely similar to some other brands that are often recommended on here, possibly from the same factory.

In which case, they're very good, and excellent value. Push-up mech is great; grid is too wide to be much use though. You can't go far wrong at those prices.

They look like they are straight from the Jinbei catalogue - which in my book means they won't be bad at all, my only real concern is the effectiveness of the grid due to the pocket size. I've got a Jinbei 100x100cm non-easy softbox on order from Foto-Morgen in Germany, but did notice that many of the Jinbei product on that site look identical to the eBay ones being sold by T-S-L. I decided to go with the one supplied by Foto-Morgen as it had the mottled interior, well worth the extra £3.82 ;)

They are in fact a copy, and not from the same factory. Unfortunately, small firms often get away with copying other people's designs. The mechanism, materials and honeycombs are from a 3rd party manufacturer that I have visited.

That doesn't mean that they're useless, although the honeycomb certainly is.

Ok thanks all, I might just give one a go, have only just started getting into/learning about using flash so might as well start off with something not too expensive, I'll let you know how it goes :suspect:

Thanks again for the advice.

Maybe I was being too cryptic ;)

I meant they 'look' like Bessel and others, not Lencarta though the basic designs appear very similar.

what's the grid for?

That particular one is purely decorative:lol:
Properly designed, and made from the right materials, they control the spread of light and prevent flare when facing towards the camera.
