Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone had purchased a lens from Microglobe.com before. I have been looking on the net for a lens and have found varying prices.

The Tokina 16-50mm 2.8 I am after ranges from about £427 on microglobe to £704 on cliftoncameras.co.uk. this seems quite a price variance and wondered if someone like Microglobe is reputable for lenses. Bought some other kit from them and happy with the service, but not sure about lenses etc.

Your comments are appreciated.

Matt

I bought a Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Macro and a SB-600 from them a couple of years ago. Had no problems with either, but I did go down to their shop to buy them.

£427 is probably for a grey import and £704 is official UK stock. If you buy from Microglobe I'd go and collect it in person if possible. See reviews on camerapricebuster.co.uk

Is a gray import bad?

Microglobe stuff is all grey import, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Grey imports are more correctly called "parallel imports", meaning that they've been brought into the country by a company other than the official importer.

All it means is that you wouldn't have the official Tokina warranty, but rather one supplied by Microglobe themselves.

Wow, do official equipment manufactures warranty really add that much to the price of an import.

I got a genuine Nikon grip for a D90 - went to their place in London... Well helpfull & they let you try before you buy as well - Well they did 2 years ago :$

They were the cheapest around at the time then for the grip that was...

OOI, I have purchased a few bits from their shop in London including lenses, TC's and filters. All has been fine and their prices can be REALLY cheap.

That said, I have tried everything out before I parted with cash but have found the guys there helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

I bought my Canon 15mm from them at a good price. It is my understanding that Canon honours warranties on lenses but maybe not bodies sourced this way. Anyway it worked so I have not needed to investigate.

Regards

Chris

me too, I bought a tamron 90 macro from them about 3 years ago which I had to return because it had a big white speck inside the front element. I had a quick refund.
