I like the idea but the subject isn't in focus, the tree is. Try one shot centre spot auto focus and point it on the edge of the hole and recompose.

I did also take this shot but preferred the lighting on the branches of the tree ...

Hiya HarveyN,

Welcome to TP, I am sure you will learn a lot about photography from this forum. I have been here for almost a year and have gained so much knowledge and advice from fellow members.

By doing this 52 I am sure you will gain a lot of experience and the folk here, I am sure, will help you with your learning.

I like the birdbox idea for this weeks theme and it is a good first attempt.

As RedTele has already pointed out, the focus is more on the tree than on the subject, i.e., the birdbox.

The sky is also very over-exposed.

I think the image would have benefited from a different view point, so as to see more of the box as the base is very dominent and dark.

I've just had a look at your other photos that you have posted on Flickr for this theme and must say I prefer the 'Bird Box' photo, although still over-exposed on the left it is more in focus with some lovely colour and detail.

Please don't take these comments personally, I think you have made a good start. There are many who wouldn't even know where to begin, but the fact that you have been out with a camera for such a challenge is very admirable.

Keep with it and by the end of the year you will look back and see how far you have progressed.

We are here to help, even though I am far from having full technical knowledge I have learned a few things over the year (at least I hope ).

Perhaps have another go at a re-shoot. I do that as part of my learning experience, you will be surprised at how much that helps.

Good luck with the rest of the challenge and I look forward to seeing your next 51 pics.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Dawn for the words of encouragement ... am hear to learn so all comments are welcomed ... on to week 2 :)
