Veh has come to a stop in Ln1 M6 N/B J26-J27 Orrell to Shevington. Want to know why? Driver had fallen asleep with a bottle of vodka in hand

the words book and throw at are marching rapidly towards this conversation!

Not I surely. Merely as to why my alcohol free utopia/vision would make a better world I need see further than this news link.

yeah I know what you mean, some days you do have to wonder but again, it's about minorities, and the sort of people that do this are genuinely in the minority. I can honestly say though, that even in my 'yoof' and under the influence of a particularly good night out, I never felt any desire to jump in car, bottle in hand and head off up the motorway ;)

An aside, and I don't know if this is true.... apparently, when Issigonis was designing the Mini, specifically the rear storage tubs either side of the back seat - the rumour is they were designed to fit a bottle of his favourite [Gordons possibly] gin. We have a later 80's version, and can confirm having tested it that a litre bottle does fit very snugly in them

The door pockets in the old 2CV were designed to hold a wine bottle.

Oubliette would be my preferred option for DDs.

All things aside, its because of the bad minority we have laws in the first place...

I heard another thing about Mini's. They deliberately leaked oil to sort of rust proof the front of the things. That's what my Da said about his, the oil leaks stopped the rust from getting out of hand.

Do you favour that punishment for other crimes like burglary, arson, murder and rape?

Back on topic, given how over the limit he will be, and the blatant drink driver, jail might very well be an option.

minis dont leak oil, they mark their territory ;)

serious note though, the rear subframes were more prone to rot than the fronts (even with a reasonably oil tight block and box).

I doubt it unless somebody died, I know a guy who's been done twice at 3x the limit, second time he was bricking it, £10,000 fine 2 years in prison , 3 year ban

He got the ban which was mandatory and a £500 fine, not even a weeks wages, came out bouncing.

He wasn't driving on the M4 last Friday as well by any chance?

Another one that's hard to believe . . . Driving along the 2 lane stretch before the Brynglas tunnels Eastbound Friday afternoon and a silver Golf in Lane 2 just slammed his brakes on for no apparent reason and came to an emergency stop in the middle of the carriageway - stayed stationary for a second or two and then took off again at speed.
I was doing 75 in lane 1 at the time and ended up manoeuvring into the hard shoulder to avoid the car behind him that swerved into my lane. I'm just amazed that everyone managed to avoid hitting anybody else, although there were a few squealing brakes and near misses.

Absolutely no idea what was going on.
If it was an insurance scam, he had to be bloody suicidal to try it on a fast moving stretch of motorway, if it was because he took exception to the car behind him tailgating then the suicidal comment still stands . . . and if it was some sort of mechanical problem I can't understand why he'd just drive off again at speed.
Some complete nutters out there :wideyed:

He probably did the right thing to stop driving whilst replying to his Facebook messages ;)

I think there is an upper limit to the fine of about a £1000. And it is means tested to get that issued. Or at least that was the case when I got done. I thought it is a bloody disgrace that punishment isn't the same for everyone else. The guy next to me got a training whilst go 10 miles faster as he couldn't pay. I got the full £1000 following means testing. I was not a happy bunny. Surely this should be about safety and not to generate income.

Then again, I guess it works as I haven't done it since. And I guess if I got just £60 fine it wouldn't have stopped me from doing it again.

Had reason to do a lot of motorway driving over the last 2 weeks and I never cease to be amazed by two things. The amount of people that apparently cannot control their speed and the amount that seem to object to being over taken. This becomes more obvious when using cruise control, I lose count of how many times I pass, then get passed by the same car several times as they drive at anything between about 60 and 85mph. Or alternatively approach a car, move out to overtake and it speeds up. I mean get a grip for goodness sake.
However, what really infuriates me is the idiots that sit in the outer lanes whilst there are perfectly clear inside lanes they could be in. You see it everywhere but seems to be particularly prevalent on the stretch the M1, southbound, between Luton and the M25, which is now 4 lanes wide. The third lane seems to be the hangout for all the plums driving at 60 totally unaware of what is going on around them. Not only are they idiots but with those that are showing some lane discipline having to drive across 4 lanes to over take and then move back again, doesn't take a genius to work out how easily an accident could happen.
Mind you, I love a good giggle at the macho ones, you know the sort, its 1am, the motorway is dead quiet, you are tootling along on the inside lane at a good speed, over taking the odd lorry, and in your rear view mirror you see him [its hardly ever her] approaching, at something considerably over the speed limit and where is he? Oh yes, the outside lane, because it is the only place to be! There are 4 lanes of motorway with sod all traffic but its the fast lane right? Eat your heart out Lewis Hamilton, the worlds best driver is doing something only just still in 2 figure in that fast lane and he is staying there.

I was £1000 for mine. It was a hefty annoyance, but not a massive financial blow. They let you pay it in instalments if you cannot pay in one go, interest free too.

I'd have sooner paid £2000 for a shorter ban and £5000-£10k not to have been banned at all. Alas....LOL.

I wasn't even bad enough for a ban. Got the fine regardless :(

Absolute bull! I very much doubt ANY car maker wants their products to be driven like a tw@ on the road (or even on the track.)

If you drive your car, the way the makers wish to you drive it, your time in the Dock and without licence will come.

@Nod that is really not what ST4 said at all. It made perfect sense to me...And I'm careful not to drive it as intended unless I'm on a track.

Exactly, any car that can crack 150mph and hit 60mph in under 5secs. They didn't build it for OAPs driving to the Garden centre at 40mph in 60mph limits now, but for enthusiast drivers who like a bit of progressive driving...

Let alone a modern family hatchback hitting 60mph in 3.7s. Heck my 4x4 does it in 5s. Everything is so much better of cars nowadays. The limitation is really with the drivers.

And the roads they get to drive them on. I assume the GL is a 420cdi or 500. A 350cdi wouldn't crack it in 5s. My Da has that 350cdi engine in his S class. Thing will do 150mph, 60 in 7 and averages 44mpg as he drives sedately, its the slowest S class you can buy in the UK is the 350cdi.

There isn't such a thing as a bad car these days, not to drive, but IMHO durability isn't all that are more and more they are engineered the last their warranty period, not much more with poor spec components, electricals etc.
