Hi all,

I am interested in double checking something before I go ahead with a purchase. Your help would be most appreciated!!!

As some of you may know on ebay there is a seller caller Harbour48

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/harbour48

They normally sell stuff but apparently their account has been comprimised. I sent them an email via ebay and received one back saying they could sell me the item but to phone their number:

0121 559 3633

Phoned them up - seemed helpfull but I am cautious as to whether they are the geniune harbour48.

If the account has been compromised they could send any messages and use any phone number.

And me being Scottish I dont want to loose my hard earned pennies to some :naughty: :rules:

So if any kind chap could possibly advise whether indeed that is the corrent number then I will buy you a

Figured someone must have used them given their feedback

Best wishes,

MJN

I was watching an item they were selling - and it's been removed today - days before the end of the auction. I would proceed with caution.

Seems a bit dubious m8.
The normal Harbour 48 usually have gazzilions of stuff for sale everyday but that one does not have anything for sale atm.

Just recieved today my canon 300mm 2.8L thats the same phone number i spoke to them on.. there top notch people from my dealings with them this last week or so.

From my last dealings (very positive by the way)

We can accept all Credit / Debit card payments direct and this allows us
to ship your item
same or next day for a prompt service for all. Our business line is (UK)

can also use this number to check any part of your order for an improved

Hi all,

Many thanks for putting my mind at rest - £2000 is alot to lose on a guess.

Went ahead and ordered - should hopefully be with me tomorrow.

Again many many thanks - Put me at ease big time.

Best Wishes,

MJN

Did you get it all ok?

Harbour48 shop is still closed on E - but guess what - everything they were selling seems to be here;
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Filter-Fantastic

Certainly the items I was watching are here - exact same wording etc....

Be interested to hear if your purchase went smoothly.

Hi all,

Yes I am now the owner of a 1D Mark II N :)

They seemed quite good - would use again but probably use Misfuds as they seem to be very very good when it comes to 2nd hand gear.

But yes I would reccomend - just have to be 100% sure your money is safe these days especially on ebay :)

Best wishes,

MJN :)

I'm not really sure what is going on with these two sellers. I bought something from Harbour48, but then received an email firstly asking for payment and then a second email to tell me they couldn't sell me the item as their account had been compromised.

Then I found the exact same item being sold by Filter-Fantastic. Same wording, same photos. Thankfully I won it for less than the original auction.

Seems like they may have two accounts. Filter-Fantastic only became active when Harbour48 became inactive.

I've bought a few things off Harbour48 in the past and the locations don't match up with this Filter-Fantastic seller and the original Harbour48 account.

A shame really, I hope they make a comeback as I used to check their eBay store regularly for bargains to be had.

I checked these out quite regularly. What put me off in the end was the fact they were selling stuff they had won on the Canon Refub site on Ebay and distinguising them as New on their Store.

What was worse was that they were splitting packs to sell the lens and bodies separately.

A word of caution - in the event of a Warranty claim with Canon - both parts of the kit would require sending back!!

For info, 'Filter Fantastic' have a different address from Harbour48:

Filter Fantastic
Creation House
unit 5 building A6
coombswood business park east
halesowen
B62 8BH

I recently purchased a lovely looking Nikkor 50mm Ai-S from them for a good BIN price. The lens arrived within a couple of days and looked great, however, there was lots of oil on the diaphram blades and it wouldn't stop down as the mechanism was so stiff you had a job to close it manually and it wouldn't spring back as it should. Obviously this was not tested or looked at before selling it.
They did however reply promptly to my email and gave me a returns number, and refunded my money as soon as they received the faulty lens from me.

I was interested in a camera body from Harbour48 - they refused to tell me the shutter actuations - even after I gave them a link to free software to enable them to tell me - they were VERY vague on the issue. Filter Fantastic then started a listing of the same body - same copy - same pics - it was re-listed 3 times without selling at a BIN - now it's on auction and has bids - but I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

They buy a lot of stuff on Ebay and just bang it straight back up with a warranty (and a 100% mark-up.) I suppose that's the "peace of mind" you get buying from a dealer......

I bought my body D2Hs from Grays - great peace of mind - great price too. I won't go nr H48 or their other shop .

They bought my Nikon D200 on 20th May for £495 exc postage.
No problems, payment received ok.

They get stuff from photography247.co.uk who also sell on ebay and to other sellers. I think the main chap is called mick. All sound people as far as I could tell.

photography247.co.uk doesn't exactly look like the place for bargain shopping....

Fuji S5Pro body mint/boxed £899 (Calumet £499+vat for a NEW one)
Nikon D200 body mint/boxed £719 (WarehouseExpress NEW £669 complete with Capture NX and FREE Nikon Crumpler Rucksack)

Well maybe not :D but I've spoke to them a few times about certain items and they've been more reasonable than the (often not updated sufficiently) online service. I'm not recommended anybody just saying from my limited experience with both of them, they're worth furthering interest and possibly buying. Of course if the price isn't great for you then don't shop there, but they can look after you if you get them on the right day :D
