had horrific performance in lightroom, and now a solution

so I was having extremly poor performance in lightroom, taking seconds to load each image, and a spinning beach ball (on a mac) skipping through images, I moved all my presets to a different folder and the issues vanished- great performance now! Will selectively move presets back in to lightroom and see if things remain snappy

just thought this might help someone out

because I searched all night for a solution and never found one

So you simply made it think they weren't there by moving all but ones you actually use to a different location? - Must try this.
I haven't been happy with the speed of it on my 4GB Ram laptop since Lightroom 3, but put up with the slowness for some of the new features - plus it's OK on a very fast desktop.

I've mentioned it before but I have multiple fast drives, program on one, cache on another, catalogues on another and this years raw files on a fourth. I then have older raw files and jpegs on other drives. Don't have any performance issues, but that wouldn't work on a laptop.

I have nearly 80,000 images in my catalogue, machine is a top of the line 15" retina, SSD, absolutely fine performance in after effects, photoshop, final cut, 3d rendering software, but horribly slow in lightroom

did some maintenance tweaks to my laptop, removed all the 100's of custom fonts i'd acquired over the years, cleaned up the desktop, didn't make a difference
figured it was a lightroom specific issue and removed the 100's of presets and the difference was immediate and amazing, I fly through the images now- editing is a joy (relatively speaking)

just move them into another folder, and move back your top 10 presets

Just tried that with mine... made no difference. Mine wasn't slow to start with though. Maybe it's an Apple thing.

Mine only slows up when I open a new large cat. It will perform nicely for a few minutes but the more I process images, the slower it'll get. And I'm on an i7 with 8GB RAM.
