Just seen this on BBC News 24.....

Snippet from bbc.co.uk said:
A gunman has killed a young woman and injured 19 other people at a college in the Canadian city of Montreal, before being shot dead by police.
The man, clad in black, entered the canteen of Dawson College, in central Montreal, during lunchtime.
Eyewitnesses described fleeing in terror from the campus grounds as he opened fire.
The dead woman was in her 20s. Five of the injured are in a critical condition in hospital.
Montreal's chief of police, Yvan Delorme, said the gunman was killed as police intervened.
"Based on current information, the suspect was killed by the police," Mr Delorme told a news briefing.

Later, he told RDI Television that the young woman had died of her injuries in hospital.

What possesses these people to do something like this?

Yeah, just caught this myself - sounds like another tragedy.

See how it unfolds as to why/what caused it.

Isn't that just horrible. On one hand you can't believe what your hearing, but on the other hand it doesn't surprise me either. It's just sad when you hear these things. What possesses someone to do this you ask Marcel? I don't think anyone who is sane can ever grasp that one. He was just a sick phsyco b*****d.

jewel

we all get our share of this type of nutjob though, we've had them, the US have had them, the Canadians have, im sure there has been this kind of tradegy everywhere

This ,I believe,is what the clever people call suicide-by-cop.

The Asbiq (armed sick b*****d in question) wants to go out but does not generally have the guts to do it.
He (yes mostly men) then takes out some innocent bystander (or family even) and the cops come in to finish him off.

This is why I believe that fire arm controlling legislation should be tough as hell BUT if someone is stable and mentally fit to posess an arm let him have whatever he wants.

Rescreen all owners at least anually for mental fitness and suitability.

I know hindsight is always clear but if there were enough competent gun owners present that woman might have lived today...

True - but compared to the US I believe Canada has a very low gun crime rate (even their murder rate in general is very low, and contrast this to the fact that Canada has a strong hunting culture). You have to ask is it ever possible to prevent people like this harming others:(

Very true
In 12 years I have seen and photographed many more murders and unnatural deaths than I care to remember and I honestly cannot say that fire arms account for more than a quarter of them.

I reckon the bottom line to this is that as long as people want to kill others and/or themselves they will find a way to do it no matter how or what is used
