Hi S,

Thanks.
Could you e-mail me a couple of pictures you have taken with the lens?
Also could you let me know the date code on the lens?
I don’t seem to be able to see your ad anymore.
Could you point me back toward it?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Ian

Seems to be a scammers paradise. Lots of fake ads, foreign email addresses, items spammed to appear selling across the whole country, loads of high value laptops or cameras at bargain prices... buyer beware. Sure there are some genuine folks in there too though.

First thing to ask them is where they are located, if not in local area then you know its a scam. The ads dissapear when people report the ad as a scam.

Personaly I always look on Gumtree. Yes there are always loads of scams. They always seam to be located miles away or places you can't get to.

Funny story on one was the chap was in a small village in the north of Scotland offering a canon 400mm 2.8 is for 1500 and I could and pay cash on pick up reply to arrange pick up over the next few days. So I said be round tonight whats you address as I am visiting my inlaws in the same village. Funny how he changed to say he had just left for Italy and would not be back for 3 months.

However I recently got a Canon x1.4 II converter that was mint / new for a fraction of the normal second cost and the chap even meet me in my town. Also supplied the reciepts of were he bought it from. So there are bargains to be had if you keep your wits around you and are carefull.

Welcome to Gumtree
'at best its stolen, at worst it doesn't exist'

I've bought and sold a few items on Gumtree over the past year. I do find a lot of scammers on Gumtree. Some want your item posted to them in return for very dodgy payments which will probably bounce, others are selling things which don't exist.

It is becoming difficult to tell who is genuine.

Just be aware if you pay, they could just say they posted the item. If it doesn't arrive it is lost and there is nothing in law you can do about it.

Happened to me. They said they posted me the tracking receipt and that didn't arrive either. I know the account number, address, kids names, phone number, mobile number and even sent a courier to collect.

The police say no crime has been committed because it was 'lost'.

Face to face and keep your wits about you is the only way to buy on there. Assume the worst and be surprised when you get what you paid for. But this poor reputation does mean there are bargains to be had as people are so wary.

The thing about Gumtree. You can go to a site like ebay, and there's millions of people browsing at any given moment. You have a really good system, easy to use for both buyers and seller, with some amount of security, and always at least one knowledgeable person bidding on the item you're looking for.

And for those reasons products often go for way over the odds. Gumtree is more like a car boot sale. People selling with little knowledge of the value, or even in fact caring, a few scammers, and all the rest of it. Some great bargains if you tread cautiously.

Most probably because they nicked it, or if they didn't, they got it off of somebody who nicked it.

Another convincing ad from Gumtree...

A Nikon 24-70, 2 weeks old at half price... quoted below... :)

Sure, just paid the guy...said he would post it to me... :)

Camera Technology: Digital
For Camera Type: SLR Maximum Aperture: f/2.8
Lens Type: Zoom Focus Type: Auto
For Camera Brand: Nikon Lens Brand: Nikon

This is a 2 week-old lens I purchased a Amazon.com. Used about a couple of time.
I am the original owner and I use this with my D700 as my primary lens. I have produce amazing pictures even in low-light condition
In excellent like-new condition, the body is pristine (no dents/scratches)
The lens (front/rear) are scratch-free. I have placed a UV-filter for protection right out of the box

Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED (77mm filters, 31.8 oz/902g).
The 24-70mm also stands out from its optically excellent predecessors its lack of klunk factor. The 24-70 doesn't get in your way. The 24-70 is an exquisite hunk of solid metal that just makes pictures with no fiddling. It feels as if it was hewn from a single solid ingot
