I just thought Id share this with you.

About a month ago I had dinner with a friend who makes stained glass as her hobby. She tried to encourage me to apply to join the Guild of Essex Craftsmen, of which she is a member, with my photography.

We'd both had a few large glasses of wine by then and I applied online.... they only take new members once a year and I applied on the last application day at 7pm at night!
I was sent all the relevant forms etc., and last night was finally the judging night.

There were 3 other photographers and 21 other entrants with different crafts, ie, woodturning, watercolour painting, all sorts.
No names were on show, we were all given a table with a number and I displayed 4 framed photographs and an A4 zip portfolio with more shots in.

We retired for coffee while the judges did their worst,..... each piece is judged by someone who knows that craft...and 2 others.
They judge for quality, finishing, and originality.

I DID IT!!!! I got 3 passes, one from each judge. :whistle2:

This means I will be able to use the Guild's crest on my website, and best of all to me..... will be given space at all the large craft fairs in Essex during next summer.

WOOOOHOOOOO!!! I am a happy girl!!! :D

Well done to you! You'll have to be sure to post on here where you are going to be appearing at craft shows etc!

Thanks Witch. There was one at Hylands House in Writtle a fortnight ago but I didnt go. I believe most are allready book this year but I will get myself sorted and start next spring.

well done Janice!!

Well done Janice, and well deserved too.

Excellent.....well done

Congratulations, sounds like you passed with flying colours:thumb:

Excellent news Janice and well done indeed :thumb:

I am interested (as I sure others are too) in the three shots that you chose to frame as the main content. If I was in the same situation I would find it incredibly difficult to select three shots for that task!!

Is there any chance of you posting a thread in photo sharing with those in it please?

Of course. I have to go to work now...I will do it later today.
I tried to show different types of shot, but with the underlying theme of the countryside as that is my main interest.

Thanks

If you would prefer not to have critique posted on those shots please say so in the thread. I know sometimes we don't want to hear others thoughts on work that we are already happy with or personally like.

If thats the case, should any appear after that I will make sure it gets deleted. :)

Congratulations Janice.

Thanks Steve, thats kind. I know what you mean, it can be quite deflating when you get bad stuff said about things you are proud of!!
I have decided to go in late to work as my husband left the gate open at 3am and my labrador has gone missing...I want to make sure he is back before I go!

These first 2 shots were A4, mounted and framed in frames of around 16" X 12"
(These are only small jpgs and dont look as good as the real thing!!)

Then I did this next one at 10" x 8" in a thin shiny black frame:

And, finally, I did these last two at 6" x 4" in frames at the front of the table:
