Thinking of a small refurb with the rig and want to sli a couple of gtx 680's. just wondering if anyone has used/ had any experience with this card? Are they worth the $$$$
I think one would be enough also. An epic fps isnt going to make you better than someone else
At least not £500/double better
It really depends on the resolution you play at.
I play games at 2560x1440, not tournament level, but I do enjoy looking at shinny graphics so I turn everything up to maximum. My 580 copes well enough, 2.5 years faithful service so far.
If you are going at 1920x1080 offered by most monitors these days, a single 680 should offer more than enough FPS for tournaments. Remember, when you go multi-GPU like SLI you actually introduce possible delays generated by CPU to balance GPU workloads. It's best to stick with a single fastest GPU.
But if you really have cash to burn, look at GTX TITAN. it's what 680 should have been, true successor to GTX580. All nVidia's high performance chip end with a 0: legendary 8800GTX is G80, 280 is GT200, 480 is GF100, 580 is GF110, TITAN is GK110. While all mainstream chips end with a 4: slow 8600GT is G84, GF104 is 460, GF114 is 560Ti, GK104 is also a small mainstream chip used in 680.[/
Yeah I was speaking to a friend about that as he suggested the same. I've never run an sli or cfx set up before only single gpu. I do a lot of esports (geeky I know) so like I say lan events and tourny's are a must. I do however stream a lot on twitch - so I'd like to use it at home for a 3 monitor set up with integrated 3d...like skyrim fully modded on 3 screens would be pretty sick - while I'm giving bf3 and blops a rest of course :/ ive already got a corsair ax1200 so figured I would put it to good use with a possible sli. I know I don't really need one, but I also don't need this hob know I'm about to eat now...nomnomnomnom
I believe Nvidia is the way to go if you're wanting to play in 3D but AMD's eyefinity is better for multiscreen gaming if that factors into things.
I used to play Quake 3 in leagues and generally the detail levels always got turned right as it made it a LOT easier to spot people. It may seem silly but things like turning off blood so that people didn't get lost in a red haze as you gibbed someone made a big difference when you were in a hectic fire fight.
The shiny stuff is nice (I leave it on now as I just play for fun rather than competitions), but getting rid of it can actually help you play better.
