Grid for Softbox

You might be able to adapt/bodge a Lencarta grid to fit. They attach with Velcro.

i did think that. I have velcro strips etc.

Will check out the lencarta site
thanks

I'm going to test mine out over the next couple of weeks and if I'm not happy then my bank card will get another hammering!

havent done this yet. Still trying to find a decent grid that i can ruin :)!!

For such a basic thing they are bloody expensive! If I find I need one I think I'll just be buying a new softbox lol

have you tried making your own, i guess i cant be that difficult

I've thought about this in the past . They do look quite difficult and would take a while to stitch or glue together . Another thought was if you don't need it to fold up , to use a big sheet of foam . You could cut it to size and then make a punch to cut out the holes .

Most grids are only stitched together at the edges - certainly the cheaper ones. For arguments sake, the horizontal strips will have evenly spaced slots in the middle one third & the vertical strips have two evenly spaced slots covering one third from each edge. The vertical strips are then threaded through the horizontal strips with the slots interlocking and holding the grid in place. Fully stitched or heat welded grids are the preserve of the more 'pro' end of the market.

If I remember correctly the strobist flickr group has a short manual on how to make a DIY grid from duct tape. It turned out to be a very time-consuming process and the final "product" weighs a ton.

I've seen a tutorial somewhere to make one from seatbelt webbing - I'd imagine it'd be cheaper to buy one.

Why make one from material? Just glue loads of toilet roll tubes or similar together, any depth you like, custom fit, spray it matt black if you want and velcro it's ass to your softbox.
Or, just buy a good one:)

Or a truck-load of black cocktail straws ;)

Pretty much any grid will work OK on a strip box. For a square box (even one as small as 60cm) you're gonna need a "good" grid. It's the length of material that has to stay rigid.

Probably best buying a softbox that has a decent frid and adapting it to hotshoe mount rather than the other way round.

To answer the original question - no, I've never seen a decent grid for the Lastolite Ezybox or its clones ;) Lastolite make one but I've never tried it. (BTW the Lastolite 60cm ezybox is now called the 54cm ezybox. Really - they now measure it using only bits that exist. Possibly it's the same actual size as your clone.)

The measurement is the outer diffuser. The 60x60 ezybox studio is true to size. The US still refer to the ezybox hotshoe 54x54 as a 60x60, which is where a lot of the confusion comes from. The studio is now discontinued anyway. The grids for the 54x54 fit quite nicely and I find them to be quite effective...

have a look at Bessel softboxes and octaboxes...fast umbrella up action...and grids too...at a very reasonable price...all i own and use...
