Grey market & Canon wireless connectivity

Apologies for another Cotswold Cameras post but I have a specific question I can’t see has been answered here before.

I’m planning on buying a Canon R6 Mark II with 24-105 f4 and have found CotswoldCameras. I understand they’re grey imports and without Canon warranty, however I was told (by WEX) that wireless connectivity (WiFi, Bluetooth) on the Canon won’t work on a grey import in the UK.

Is there any truth to this or are WEX (understandably!) just trying to put me off their competition?

Are there any other issues with grey import Canons (other than warranty)? Will everything on the camera work as it should and will I be able to update firmware? Has anyone had any other issues recently with Cotswold Cameras?

Their reviews look fine and posts in this forum and Reddit are generally positive, though naturally I’m nervous as it’s (for me at least) such a big spend.

Apologies to ask yet another Cotswold Cameras question on this forum, I know there’s been loads, but having trawled through I can’t see any mention of camera connectivity previously.

Thanks for your help!

My R7 is a grey import. I do not have any issues with WiFi/bluetooth.

I buy from Panamoz, they give a 3 year G/Tee and they stand by it.
I use Nikon now Sony before never had any issues with any part of the cameras. Russ.

Thank you. They were a bit more expensive but i’ll have a proper look at again.

Mine was from Hdew and I would recommend. My only grey import. Prices seem to vary between grey importers over time so check prices when you decide to purchase.

I will always buy from Panamoz. They give better prices, better service and a three year warranty - better than anyone else.

I've bought grey import products for forty years plus and have never had a problem other than some spares for a Lexus LS400 (car) I had about fifteen years ago - I just bought them in Japan. No problem at all really. (y)

It may not be relevant however there was a change regarding connected deviceas and the ability to change the default password. Maybe Wex's concerns relate to this farily recent change in the law?

Cotswold offer a 5 year warranty for £99.

Link here

Upgrade your 3 year warranty on cameras and lenses to a 5 year warranty for only £99 per order. Yes that is per order not per item. So if you buy a camera and three lenses in one order you can upgrade the warranty on all items to 5 years for only £99.

I'd be more concerned about being able to get it to work at all !!

It might just be me and I'd be interested to hear other experiences but on my R7 I've only once go it to link to my phone via wireless, incredibly buggy un-intuitive interfaces.

Utter hogwash. WiFi & Bluetooth are international standards. If they don't work, they don't work worldwide.

The only potential thing is when the region is set to Europe that you don't get the option to use channel 14 on 2.4GHz wireless that you'd be able to use in Japan.

Conversely you'd be able to use channels 12 & 13 that you'd not be allowed to use if set to US... But most people only use channels 1-11 anyway because 12-14 (being geographically limited) tend to be supported more poorly in hardware/software anyway.

Anyway, you can set the region to whatever you want, regardless of the source of the camera (and they're all made in the same factory anyway)

Barefaced lies like the original dealer statement are part of the reason that they are becoming a rare phenomenon.

Linked to my iPad rather than my iPhone. I didn’t find it difficult and the connection did not drop. I found the previous version of Canon Connect difficult to use.

Thanks everyone! I’ll go buy from panamoz/cotswold and save a fortune… which I can spend on more camera gear!

Who knew this hobby was so expensive, eh!
