Grey background for family/baby shots?

Hi all

I just wondered what peoples views are regarding grey backgrounds for bab and family studio shots? I have a double sided white/grey vinyl and have always used the white because......well........I dont know really, its just the done thing for families isnt it? I rarely see grey background shots for young children, babies and families and I cant really see any obvious reason why. Is it a big no no for some reason or just not really flattering etc?

Any opinions would be much apreciated.

make the subject the subject and let the background take care of itself
i see no reason to no use grey since it is in the tonal range of black to white and would support any colour
white isnt a colour but all colours reflected giving the source of the light..as i see it...
