Hi all, I'm very new to the world of dslr cameras and the minefield of information that goes with it.

I don't have a particular genre of photography so I'll just say I'm a opportunistic photographer! :)

It will end up being of landscapes and macro shoots and hopefully moving towards 'experimental' photos once my experience and understanding increases.

Thanks Barry, there's certainly a plethora out there...even if you're only looking to understand the very basics. I've watched some tutorials on YouTube which have been helpful and have been recommended a good book by a fellow forum member - Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson

It's a great book and makes understanding manual control of the camera very simple.

Excellent - just what I need. With there being so many sources of information, I'm finding myself jumping from one topic to another without fully understanding what I set out to find out in the first place! :)
