Hello all,
I just wanted to say a quick hello and introduce myself. My name is Chris and I am from Canada, having moved to Harrogate, N Yorkshire in October with my fiancee for her work.
I just received my Canon 400D in the post this morning, my first venture into the DSLR world. I have been a P&S person for most my life except for the photography class I took in high school 15 years ago, where I learned the fundamentals but I am pretty sure I have forgotten most of them. The 400D came with the kit 18-55mm lens, a BG-E3 battery grip and a remote trigger cable. I have ordered the following which should be arriving in the next day or two as well:
4GB Sandisk Extreme III CF Card
Tamron 55-200mm f4.0-5.6 Di II LD Macro Lens
Lowepro Primus AW Back Pack
Hoya 52mm Skylight 1B
Hoya 58mm UV Filter
Books:
The Digital SLR Handbook by Michael Freeman
The Photographer's Eye: Composition Design by Michael Freeman
I think I have all I need to start my new hobby. Am I forgetting anything? I was hoping to get the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson but it appears to be in a reprint right now. I picked up the Tamron lens just so that I have more focal range to play with. If I find that I am using the 55-200mm range quite a bit then I will upgrade the lens in the future. I still have a wish list of things I would still like to get, but I have spent enough getting my initial kit that these will have to wait a month or two:
Canon 50mm f/1.8 MKII Lens
Redsnapper Tripod
Flashgun (looking at the Sigma EF530 ST DG)
Anyways, I guess that is enough for my long-winded introduction. Time to go do some reading of the manual. Be gentle with me - I may have some easy/stupid questions.
