Hello All,
Complete novice here who has just bought a Nikon D40x as an early Christmas pressie ;)
Kindly pointed in this forums direction by a member of one of the land rover forums I frequent (Landy nut !)
Looking forward to posting some pictures for some feedback as soon as I can figure out how to post 'em :D
Cheers
Kenny

Hello.

 welcome!

How you finding the D40x? My old man is buying mum one for xmas, wouldn't mind some feedback if you've got 5 minutes to spare ;)
Hi Matty
Happy to give you a complete numpties perspective !
I did as much research as I could and the two choices I thought would suit me and were within my budget were the Nikon D40x and the Canon 400D
After getting a feel for both in the shop I plumped for the D40x on two counts -
It seemed to fit my hands a bit better than the Canon, which felt very small and light - almost unbalanced
The clincher was the D40x taking SD cards instead of the Canon's compact flash cards - I already had a couple of 2 GB cards from my ickle Dimage X1 compact so it seemed a no-brainer
Straight out of the box the D40x was easy to use and although the instruction book seemed overly long a few nights got me through it
Must say I am delighted with the results so far, this being my first DSLR
Start up is almost instant - a bugbear I always had with the Minolta compact as by the time it decided to wake up, the photo was gone
Hope this is of some use to you Matty

JoeT - well worked out ! - I do indeed have a V8 in my Landie (actually, I have 2 of them for my sins !) :)

Glad to see there are other 4x4 users on here
There were 5 on my drive not long ago (all landies), but just down to a Range Rover imported from Japan about a year ago and a Defender 90 kitted out for off roading
Bloomin things seem to breed at times ! :D
Can anyone tell me if you have to be here for a while before you can upload pictures to a gallery cos I can't seem to to be able to do it ? - of course it's more than likely me being thick mind ! :bonk:

I tend to struggle with anything that can't be fixed with a 9/16" spanner
