Have just joined this forum and thought I'd say hello. I guess I'd describe myself as an enthusiastic amateur having only really started since my wife bought me my camera for Christmas last year.

Anyway, am looking forward to being a member of the forum!!

Welcome! That is quite the collection of kit you have there.

Welcome to the forums.

Looking at your sig you seem to have had a few more presents along the way :) Whats for xmas this year?

Thanks guys....:)

I'm lucky to travel a lot via work and it's surprising how much you can save in duty free's around the world, particularly in the US.

I'm working on my financial adviser (she who must be obeyed), for a 70 - 200 f/2.8 but am failing miserably at the moment :'( ...........

ah well you never know!!

welcome!

Hiya Raindancer! Thats a nice kit list you have there.

Good luck in the 70-200 f2.8 stakes! :D Hope Father Christmas brings it you this year ;)

Welcome to the forums BTW :)

Thanks to everyone for the great welcome:)

Hi everyone,

I'm new here too. Though not quite new to photography. I started in 1961. Back in the good ol' days. Went from raw newbie to freelance via a course with Mallinsons of Cambridge (were they swallowed by the BFP I wonder?). I was in the RAF at the time. Became so enthusiastic I changed my RAF trade to Photographer. Trained on the most in-depth course the mob had run at the time (late 60s). Then served the rest of my time as a photographer.

Only job I could get in photography after I left the mob in '72 was B&W printer. I went darkroom crazy in 6 months. That's when I left full-time photography. But ran a successful wedding biz part-time until late 80s. That burned me right out. So I've been hibernating ever since.

Just woke up and heard about this digital stuff? The mind boggles! Just as I was about to clean the rust off my enlarger, dust off my Bronica ETRS, two trusty old TLRs, Mamiya Press Super 23, and twin Konica Autoreflex T4s - plus lenses. Not to mention checking whether the batteries are any good in the Metz 45 CT1 flashgun, and the even older Metz 502. So now what do I do? Go back into hibernation?

You could always dust the kit off, get it used, and be the ultra cool guy who's considered all 'retro' by the younguns :D

I wouldn't go back into hibernation though, there's still plenty of room for film and digital users alike everywhere, especially on here. I think is quite an exciting time for photography at the moment, because there are so many endless possibilities and things for everyone to do, it's quite exciting :)

Hello and :welcome: to the forum raindancer & tandem28

Welcome aboard

Thanks again to everybody, what a great forum this is!!!!!!

As that old saying goes, definitely get your kit out and get stuck in!!!! Don't go back into hibernation, to many people and places to photograph.........

I still have an old Nikon I dragged out the other day and think I should stick some film in to that.......

Rog

Rog, you're quite right. I keep meaning to get some film for my old Praktica MTL5B that I got when my dad died. Not the highest end of kit, but as they say, it's not the camera that makes the photographer

There's a great world out there, lets get snapping it!
