So i decided to do a 52...

I've spent the last year learning so much about photography and its become my most favourite past time, apart from lurking the forums & buying kit...:D

I'm usually proud of the shots i produce but i'm always looking for ways to improve and develop my 'style'. I'm really interested in lighting techniques weather it be natural or strobes, more so strobes and i am going to incorporate this into my 52. Hopefully gaining some good knowledge and crit from you guys.

I'm going to be doing quite a lot of traveling in the year to come so you'll see pics from all over the world in my 52.

Here goes...

Week 1 - Curved

So i saw this sitting on a shelf, definately has a few curves in it and i wanted to capture mood as well as the curves. Quite happy with the outcome but i wanted to get a pic done before i get back into work as i may not get a chance this week. I didn't bother cleaning it as i thought it may add to the atmosphere of the model at work..

Light source - SB900 to the right
1/250s @ F6.3
ISO 100
SB900 - Manual & i think it was 1/32 power

PP - Croped it slightly on the bottom & left side, brightened it slighly and increased the saturation a bit.

I really like that a lot. You have the lighting spot on!
Love the black right edge, and the light that fills in and around the object!
You should be happy with your first entry to your 52

Really like this, the lighting spot on for me. I'd like to see the full tabletop as you've mentioned you cropped the bottom left but still very good.

You've nailed (pardon the pun!) the lighting. The background light works really well.

I like it!

Ian.

Whoa....what an entrance! Fab 1st entry and I love the lighting and the whole mood of the image. Look forward to seeing your future entries from your travels you've mentioned.

Thanks! That was exactly my intention, glad you liked it.

Thanks m8! I was contemplating putting the whole tabletop in but i then thought as the the theme is curved i'd lead the eye to the parts which are curved.

Took me about 10-15 trys before i got it right.. I wanted to capture the curves and what the subject is doing... Las vegas is first on the list end of Jan.. :D

Thanks, i din't actually intend to light the background tbh, but when i got the shot it just worked!

Very nice, kind of reminds me of one of those big barn conversion workshops with the big double doors opened up catching those last rays of evening sun.

Excellent shot! I've a golfer snapping a golf club, which I'd planning on using on location at some point.

Nice shot would have liked to see the complete table and the dust adds to the picture nicely.

I am waiting for it to come alive

Nice, got everything right in that one... my only pick is that it's a bit red on my monitors, is it a greyscale pic or a colour one with no colour?

everyone's already said it-But once again, perfect lighting and love the composition!

Its in colour with not much colour, i increased the yellow a bit to give a classic look, i considered b&w and sepia but got caught in between...

Background is great and blends in beautifully with your lighting.

A great start to the 52, lots of curves and it works well for me, I like it.

It's a cracking shot. Lovely moody lighting really brings out the shapes in the sculpture. Well done

Great little model photographed well and in keeping with the subject!

I despair! 29 comments on week one, and you still can't manage to proceed any further! :shake:
