Due in no small part to the birth of my daughter, I've caught the photography bug. After purchasing an entry level DSLR last year, I've been absolutely gripped with learning the ropes in order to become a better photographer.

The net is awash with info on how to do this, but until now I hadn't considered joining a forum. I honestly don't usually join forums, but having just browsed the 'talk beginners' I was hooked.

I realise there are lots of people in the same boat as me. All of us looking for help, luckily there are such kind souls to give it. I look forward to the day, that I might repay this by handing out advice of my own. Cheers

And most people in your boat progress to become relatively good photographers.

A warm welcome to a very busy forum. Hopefully you'll pick up some great tips here.

Hi Richard, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums. "Enjoy".

Hi Richard, And welcome to the forum

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm just looking how best to post photos.
I feel like I've learnt lots just by looking at how others have had their photos critiqued. This can't be achieved the same via websites, YouTube or books (or at least not at the same speed). I love the brutal honesty, no pussy footing around. Then there's obviously the argumentative types. Like they say "opinions are like ar$eholes, we all have one".

Love it.

Sometimes, especially when new to photography, it can feel really horrible. The moderators will try to look out for pure attacks on the person and I know I'm new here so don't know many, but my guess is 99% of criticisms will be aimed at the photograph and not the person who took it!

When I was new to forums I found the best policy was to have a thick skin and not shout back - it's not easy and on occasion you feel hopeless but in time you see what others were meaning because your standard will improve.

Trouble is when you get pretty good (I'm still working on it :D) people are then too afraid to be critical.

Enough on that - it's a really busy forum and don't be frightened of asking questions.

I think there are a lot of people who take up the art because of the reasons you have, you realise very quickly that there are:
1) some great photogrphers out there who really push the boundaries and take beautiful shots and
2) there are some truly terrible people taking photos who should not call themselves professionals

our wall at home is testament to both!

Hi Richard and as above a warm welcome to TP.
Hope you enjoy yourself here :)
